Dr. Michael Howard, From Dashes to Dragons — Ikat Textiles of Southeast Asia

Dr. Howard is an expert on Southeast Asian textiles and transnationalism at Simon Fraser University. Among his numerous research publications are A World Between the Warps: Southeast Asia’s Supplementary Warp Textiles (2008) and From Dashes to Dragons: The Ikat Patterned Textiles of Southeast Asia (2010). He also edited Textile Traditions in Contemporary Southeast Asia (2012). With decades of research to draw on, Dr. Howard’s talk will be visually rich, expertly knowledgeable, and sensitive to the specific cultural contexts in which textiles are made, worn, and exchanged.
